15 October 2012:

The contract, which relates to upgrading the drilling system on Gullfaks B, was signed this morning.

"This is a major contract for Aibel which we are proud to be awarded in tough competition with other suppliers. We would like to thank Statoil for the trust and confidence it has shown in our ability to complete complex drilling upgrade projects," says Jan Skogseth, President and CEO of Aibel.

The project, which will be executed by Aibel in Haugesund, entails replacing and installing new drilling equipment and systems on Gullfaks B, to ensure compliance with the new HSE requirements. The project will also improve regularity, facilitate increased production and contribute to extend the lifetime of the platform to 2032.

One billion
The project begins immediately and will be completed in January 2016. About 100 engineers in Aibel will be working on the project, while some 60 people will be mobilised offshore during 2014 and 2015. The value of the contract is estimated to be about NOK 1 billion.

Long-term partner
KCA Deutag in Bergen will be Aibel's partner and participate on the project with specialised expertise within drilling systems and drilling operations. Aibel and KCA Deutag have entered into a long-term collaboration within drilling upgrade projects, where this is the second project collaboration. The first project on which the parties worked together, Oseberg C DFUP, is currently being delivered to Statoil.
