Aibel won contract worth billions at Troll A

Statoil has given Aibel the contract for expanding the gas compression capacity on the Troll A platform in the North Sea. The contract has a value of around NOK 2.7 billion.

The Troll A-platform will be upgraded with a new compression module, utility module and in addition a new electro module for receiving electricity from ashore. This contributes to maintaining the production of gas from the field, even though the pressure in the reservoir is decreasing. Aibel also delivered the first compression module with utilities to the platform.

Exciting for our engineers and the yard in Haugesund
"This is a big and important contract for us. Our staff in Oslo has been working for a long time to develop the concept that won the contract. The contract means several more years with exciting tasks for our engineers in Oslo and Haugesund," says President and CEO Jan Skogseth in Aibel AS.

The contract is also important for the yard in Haugesund, where three modules with the total weight of 5000 tonnes will be assembled. Personnel from the yard will also modify and install the modules on the Troll A platform.

The Troll field is the cornerstone of Norwegian gas production, and the largest gas discovery in the North Sea. Statoil expects to produce gas from Troll for 70 years.

"After working at Troll A for many years, we know the platform well," says Skogseth.

The work starts immediately, and will be completed in 2015. At the most, 600 people will work on the project, which includes project management, engineering, construction, installation and testing.
