AMEC Awarded ‘Kizomba B’ Oil & Gas Project

AMEC, the international engineering services company, and its alliance partner Fluor, have been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by Hyundai Heavy Industries to provide design, engineering and project management services for ExxonMobil’s Kizomba ‘B’ floating production and offloading (FPSO) facility which will operate in deepwater off the West Africa coast.

AMEC’s services are being provided from its fast growing engineering office in Houston. The project is another milestone in the expansion of the company’s work for the international deepwater oil and gas production sector and further expands AMEC’s role in the growing West African oil production region. Kizomba ‘B’ is the second in the series of Kizomba FPSO’s. In November 2001, AMEC announced its selection for the design, engineering and project management of ExxonMobil’s similarly sized Kizomba ‘A’ floating production facility.

It is particularly satisfying to be able to provide engineering and consultancy services to Hyundai Heavy Industries on Kizomba ‘B’ which builds upon our relationship with them on the current Kizomba ‘A’ deepwater development.

“The new contract, for the significant West African market, demonstrates our ability to provide value-adding solutions in the deepwater floating production facilities market. This project and our world-class delivery on facilities such as Anasuria, Curlew, Captain, Bonga and Kizomba ‘A’ demonstrates our strong track record in floating production facilities from conceptual design through to construction and operation.”

Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea will carry out the main contract for production of the FPSO hull and topsides, which will be fabricated in Hyundai’s Ulsan yard in South Korea. AMEC and Fluor, through their strategic alliance for offshore floating production facilities, will provide design and engineering for the topside facilities and support the Hyundai project management team in the overall execution of the project. Oil production from Kizomba ‘B’ is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2005.

The 81,000 tonne Kizomba ‘B’ facility will be 285 metres long, 63 metres wide and 32 metres high. It will be capable of storing 2.2 million barrels of crude oil in its lower hull facilities while processing 250,000 barrels of crude oil per day. It will be permanently moored in water depths of 1,005 - 1,280 metres (3,300 - 4,200 feet).
