APL Offshore Singapore Pte. Ltd. subsidiary of BW Offshore Ltd, has awarded subsea connector specialist, First Subsea, a contract to supply four diverless bend stiffener connectors for two STL buoys destined for the Neptune Deep Water Project North and South.

The submerged turret loading (STL) buoys will be used for mooring liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification vessels at the proposed, offshore processing, Neptune.Deep Water Port The bend stiffeners for each of the STL buoys gas offloading riser and umbilical will comprise First Subsea diverless bend stiffener connectors (DBSC) and Trelleborg CRP bend stiffeners.

The DBSC uses First Subsea's Ballgrab ball and taper technology where female DBSC connectors are fitted integrated intoto the STL buoy ahead of tow out. The DBSC male connectors are then inserted offshore to provide a secure connection for a gas offloading riser bend stiffener within a J tube and an umbilical within an I tube on each of the buoys. The risers and umbilicals are secured at the top of each respective I/J tube.

APL is taking a complete diverless installation and operation approach to the Neptune STLs. "The First Subsea DBSCs will provide for a diverless, safe and quick installation of the risers and umbilicals. Moreover, the combination of First Subsea and Trelleborg CRP offers an integrated source of supply. As a result we can be confident that the connectors and bend stiffeners are designed for optimal in-service performance," said Ole Kristoffer Andersen, Project Manager, APL.

Final delivery of APL's buoy system is expected in May 2009 and the installation campaign will commence soon after. Installation is planned for completion mid August 09.
