The Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer) in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) has awarded the Shaw Group Inc. a process license technology package that will include four Axens technologies along with the world’s largest residue fluid catalytic cracker (RFCC) which is part of the Axens, Shaw, Total and IFP FCC Technology Alliance.

The Axens technologies to be included in the expansion at the Ruwais Industrial Complex include the following units:

  • Unsaturated LPG treatment unit (Sulfrex™) – 59,800 barrels per stream day (bpsd)
  • C4-cut purification system (Alkyfining®) – 37,800 bpsd
  • Butane Isomerization unit – 26,000 bpsd
  • RFCC whole cracked naphtha hydrotreater (Prime-G+™) – 40,930 bpsd

The centerpiece of the grassroots expansion will be the 127,100 bpsd R2R™ RFCC unit. The R2R includes the most advanced components in FCC technology, including: impact feed injectors, RS2SM riser termination device, KFBE™ structured stripper packing, SCMSM selective cracking mixer and PetroRiserSM external riser for propylene production. To date, over 40 FCC licenses have been awarded to the Technology Alliance.

The Ruwais Prime-G+ award is the 156th license of this technology for the production of ultra-low sulfur gasoline.
