We are proudly celebrating this year with full fervour and gaiety the 50th Anniversary of the 1st Shipment of Crude Oil produced from Umm Shaif field and exported from Das Island, on the 4th of July 1962.
On this day, the “British Signal”, a tanker owned by BP, laid anchor in Das Island’s harbour to lift 254,554 barrels of crude destined for Japan.

Hundreds of jubilant UAE nationals and expatriates lined the shores of their small island to watch this historical event which was seen as a promising sign for a brighter future.

The 4th of July is a unique day in the history of the United Arab Emirates and Abu Dhabi in particular. The first shipment and the subsequent changes it has initiated for the country and its people have their roots in the relatively distant history of the search for oil in the offshore areas of Abu Dhabi.

The event will be celebrated in the second half of this year, marking half a century of the company’s sustainable growth, progress and success stories that kept unfolding year by year, month by month and day by day.
