2000-01-03

CFD11-1-1 is a discovery well drilled by a US company Kerr-McGee led group on block 04/36 in Bohai Bay. The well was spudded on November 19 1999. The thickness of logged oil pay zone is more than 280 feet and five zones were tested from 2621 to 4472 feet. The total well flow rate reached 2483 barrels per day, of which two tests flowed 1131 barrels oil at 4450 feet and 828 barrels oil per day at 4300 feet in Guantao formation, the crude is 17 - 20 degree API. In the lower part of the Ming formation, flow rate reached 522 barrels oil per day. The test for the upper Ming formation was failed due to the sand production. The discovery structure is a large four- way dip anticline with more than 5,000 acres of closure.

The test result was encouraging and Kerr-McGee, the operator is drilling the first appraisal well approximately 3.5 kilometers northeast to delineate the reservoir and planed to have more work in the block 04/36 and 05/36 next year.

"The discovery is of great significance, which further reveals the potential in the shallow horizon in Bohai Bay."said Mr. Ke Ru, executive vice president for exploration, "CNOOC limited is actively cooperating with the operator to seek new prospects in this regard." CNOOC Limited will have the option to acquire up to 51% interests in any commercial development project and production within in the PSCs.
