November 2009

Construction department commenced civil works on construction of four new containers (2 containers with capacity of 5000 m3 and two containers with capacity of 10 000 m3) within Oil refinery Rijeka.

Before the construction of container foundations, it was necessary to perform wide excavation of stone material in order to form a plateau for container foundation. So far, more than 70 000 m3 of stone material has been dug and transported to the waste area and plateau for three containers has been prepared. Foundations for mentioned three containers have been fully completed and mechanical-mounting works are proceeding, whereas works on excavation and transport of stone material for fourth container are in progress.

Civil works on ensuring slope underneath future containers by using reinforced concrete beams, ground anchors and reinforced concrete wall, as well as shotcrete at the back of container, have also been in progress.

During the excavation of stone material for fourth container, a layer of loose material appeared which required additional slope ensurance. At the top of the slope, jet grouting columns have been designed and fitted, which will be additionally reinforced by ground anchors app. 12 m long.

Works on ensuring the slope have been executed simultaneously with works on improving the ground beneath future container foundations by using jet grouting columns.

In short time, the construction of foundations for above ground joint pipelines will commence. Currently, the wide excavation of stone material is in progress.
