CNPC reaches two agreements with the Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources of Syria

On April 2, witnessed by Li Changchun, a Member of Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee who was paying a visit in Syria, and Muhammed Naji al-Otari, Prime Minister of Syria, CNPC and the Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources of Syrian Arab Republic signed two agreements at Syrian Prime Minister House, namely the Refinery Cooperation Agreement Between Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources of Syrian Arab Republic and CNPC International Ltd. and Framework Agreement in Petroleum Sector Between Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources of Syrian Arab Republic and CNPC International Ltd..

According to the agreements, a joint venture will be established by CNPC and the Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources of Syria to build a 5 Mt/a refinery (Deir Ez Zour Refinery)in eastern Syria, meaning that Sino-Syrian petroleum cooperation will expand from the upstream sector to downstream sector.
