PETRÓLEO BRASILEIRO S/A - PETROBRAS, [Bovespa: PETR3/PETR4, NYSE: PBR/PBRA, Latibex: XPBR/XPBRA], a Brazilian international energy company, announces that Petrobras sent a Declaration of the Commercial Potential of the oil and gas discoveries in the old block SEAL-100 (figure attached) to the ANP (National Petroleum Agency) in August 30, 2004). The name “Piranema Field” was chosen for this future deepwater production area in the Sergipe/Alagoas Basin (water depth varying between 1,200 and 1,600 m).

In the area of the "Discovery Evaluation Plan of 1-SES-142” discoveries of several small oil and gas accumulations were made by the wells SES-142, SES-143, SES-147, SES-149 and SES-154, which totaled recoverable oil volumes of 76 million barrels of oil of excellent quality (API grade between 41 and 43), the production plan for which is currently at the initial preparation stage.
