Elf Petroleum Trinidad, partner with a 30% interest on Block 2C, operated by BHP, announces a gas discovery on this block, located 40 km offshore, northeast of Trinidad, in a water depth of 40 meters.

The Angostura-1 discovery well flowed natural gas at a stabilized rate of 30 million cubic feet per day.

Appraisal studies are necessary to evaluate the size of the discovery .

Over the past several years, the Elf Group has been acquiring high potential acreage in South America and the Caribbean. Elf wishes to continue these efforts especially in Brazil where it is negotiating a participation in deep water offshore blocks.

Elf's activities in the region are part of its strategy to develop a new set of producing subsidiaries outside its traditional areas in Europe and Africa. The Angostura 1 results well support this strategy.
