Oil and gas contractor Energi Mega Persada (EMP) temporarily halted gas production from Pagerungan field in Kangean block since Wednesday evening (11/22/2006). The output cut was due to an explosion in Pertamina”s East Java Gas Pipeline (EJGP), EMP Director Thomas Soulsby said.

“EMP Kangean has temporarily halted production from nine wells in Pagerungan field,” he said.
EJGP, which passes areas not far from Banjarpanji#1 well in Sidoarjo, ruptured and exploded Wednesday evening. Pipeline operations were automatically shut down. EJGP channels 140 mmscfd of gas to Perusahaan Gas Negara, Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and Petrokimia Gresik prior to the incident.

EMP Kangean wholly owns Kangean block, which it operates.
