Dana Petroleum plc (“Dana” or “the Company”), the UK independent oil and gas exploration and production company, is delighted to announce that the Grouse oil field has been successfully brought into production. Dana has a 50% working interest in the field, which it owns in partnership with Venture Production (also 50% and Operator).

The Grouse field is situated in the UK’s Central North Sea, in Block 21/19, and has been developed via a subsea production well tied back to the Dana/Venture owned Kittiwake platform, the production hub for the Greater Kittiwake Area (“GKA”) operations. Initial field productivity is in line with expectations at around 10,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (“boepd”), yielding approximately 5,000 boepd net to Dana.

Grouse has utilised a pipeline tie-in point that was pre-installed during the construction of the Goosander infrastructure in 2006. The Goosander field also lies in the GKA production hub and came into production in August 2006.

In addition to the success of bringing the new Grouse oil field on stream, the Mallard oil field was also returned to production in the GKA in mid-December.

Dana’s Chief Executive, Tom Cross commented:

“This very important milestone completes Dana’s strongest ever year of operational performance. During 2008 the team has delivered record oil and gas production, additional reserves through valuable new oil and gas discoveries in the UK and Egypt, and has significantly grown Dana’s asset portfolio across its core areas of the UK, Egypt and Norway.”

Notes to Editors:

  • The P0238 licence covering Block 21/19 was awarded in the 4th UK Offshore Licensing Round in 1972.
  • GKA, including the Grouse discovery, was acquired by Dana and Venture in April 2003 from Shell UK Limited and Esso Exploration and Production UK Limited.
  • An appraisal well in the Grouse field was successfully drilled and tested in November 2007 at rates of over 10,000 boepd gross on a restricted choke.
  • The GKA production hub now comprises five producing oil fields; namely, the Kittiwake, Mallard, Gadwall, Goosander and Grouse fields.
