First oil was produced on board the Amerada Hess operated floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), Triton, when the choke on the first production well on the Bittern Field was opened and oil reached the vessel at 23.14hrs on Saturday 15 April 2000. Production from the Guillemot West and Guillemot North West Fields commenced at 07.20hrs on Thursday 20 April 2000. Once gas export is achieved, production will be ramped up to plateau production of 105,000 barrels of oil per day.

The Triton development comprising Bittern, Guillemot West and Guillemot North West Fields is located 140 miles east of Aberdeen.

The fields served by the FPSO Triton have estimated reserves of some 140 million barrels of oil and 210 billion cubic feet of gas. The Guillemot West/Guillemot North West Fields were discovered in the early 1980's and Bittern in 1996. The investment in the project is an estimated £550million.

Amerada Hess is the operator of the shared production facilities, Shell U.K. Exploration and Production is the operator of the Bittern Field and of the development phase of the Guillemot West/Guillemot North West Fields. Operatorship of the Guillemot Fields will pass to Veba Oil & Gas UK Limited with the establishment of the production phase. Esso Exploration & Production UK Limited, a member of the ExxonMobil group of companies, holds an overall 23% share of production from the three fields. The other partners with an interest in the Triton development are Enterprise Oil Exploration Limited and Paladin Expro Limited.

Nick Fairbrother, Managing Director UK, Amerada Hess Limited said "By seizing the opportunity available to maximise the degree of onshore commissioning, and implementing preparatory work at the quayside, first oil has been achieved in just four weeks from the arrival of the vessel on location.
