11. May 2009

BW Offshore's FPSO BW Cidade de São Vicente received first oil in 2200m water depth on the Petrobras-operated Tupi field offshore Brazil 25 April. The FPSO arrived at the field in March 2009, in line with the original schedule.

The inauguration of the Tupi production start up was performed 1 May onboard the vessel in the presence of Mines & Energy minister, Edison Lobão, Petrobras’ President and the CEO Jose Sergio Gabrielli, and of the entire Petrobras board of directors and the CEO’s of their other partners in Tupi, BG Group (25%) and Galp energia (10%). Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received an oil sample at the official celebration at Marina da Glória, in Rio de Janeiro the same evening.

The charter and operation contracts are for 10 years, plus a five year optional period. The contract requires an oil processing capacity of 30 000 barrels per day and a storage capacity of 600 000 barrels.

The Tupi TLD project is considered as a high profile project due to the challenging schedules involved and the technically advanced turret from BW Offshore’s technology division APL. The delivery on the field took only 11 months from reception of the Letter of Intent which is according to contract.

BW Cidade de São Vicente is BW Offshore's first FPSO for the giant Tupi cluster/pre-salt reservoirs and the company's second FPSO contract with Petrobras. BW Offshore's second FPSO for Petrobras, BW Pioneer, will be installed on the Chinook & Cascade fields in US Gulf of Mexico in the first quarter of 2010.
