FPSO Cidade de Ilhabela sailed out from CHENGXI GUANGZHOU after successful conversion

On 25-Oct-2013, the delivery ceremony of FPSO Cidade de Ilhabela -the largest FPSO with most complex and advanced technology in history- was held in CHENGXI SHIPYARD, GUANGZHOU. FPSO Cidade de Ilhabela is the first VLCC-conversion-to-FPSO project cooperating between SBM and CSSC for Petrobras, which marks a solid step of CSSC towards the international offshore industry. Mr. Nan Daqing, vice present of CSSC, leaders and guests from Petrabras and SBM attended the delivery ceremony.

On the ceremony, Mr. Nan pointed out that the successful conversion of FPSO Cidade de Ilhabela not only marked the completion of a conversion contract, but also created a new cooperation era between CSSC, SBM and Petrobras and laid a solid foundation for the further extensive cooperation. Mr. Yves Paletta, Managing Director, SBM Schiedam, highlighted that during the project, CXG had successfully completed the conversion work by conquering lots of difficulties, such as design change, cross operation, etc. SBM hoped to carry out more extensive cooperation with CSSC and promise to introduce more projects into CXG.

The spread moored FPSO Cidade de Ilhabela which is converted form VLCC boasts a design life of 25 years without dry-docking. As SBM’s first FPSO conversion project in China, the successful delivery of FPSO Cidade de Ilhabela had become a pioneer in FPSO conversion industry in Southern China. After achieving an outstanding performance in project FPSO Cidade de Ilhabela, in this July, CXG wined two more FPSO contracts -FPSO Cidade de Marica & FPSO Cidade de Saquarema- from SBM.

FPSO Cidade de Ilhabela is completed for conversion within 20 months, with main conversion work covering new-built riser balcony and mooring system, main deck renewal, tank reinforcements, new-built accommodation, flare tower foundation, and ballasting and painting in cargo tank, shell, new accommodation and engine room.
