Mercon Steel Structures B.V. and GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. have signed a contract for the Construction, Load out and Seafastening of satellite platform G16a-B in the Dutch part of the North Sea

A drilling campaign of GDF SUEZ last year, lead to the finding of significant gas reserves in block G16 which is located 80km north of Dutch island Terschelling.

Platform G16a-B will have a water separation facility. Further treatment of the gas will take place on platform G17d-AP to which the new satellite will be connected by pipeline.

Mercon’s scope of work will consist of the manufacturing of a 1,250 tonnes topside and a 950 tonnes jacket including piles (580 tonnes). The work will be carried out at Mercon’s Gorinchem yard. Project execution activities have already been started by Mercon. Installation of the platform is planned for summer 2011.

Mr Willem Griffioen, Managing Director of Mercon is very pleased with the new assignment of GDF SUEZ. ‘Our organization is very well equipped and eager to build these type of platforms’. Mr Ruud Zoon, Managing Director of GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. adds: ‘GDF SUEZ is happy to renew its co-operation with Mercon and is confident that the fabrication of the platform is in good hands’.
