GE Energy is supplying 20 natural gas-fueled Jenbacher generator sets for a new 30 MW power plant being built to support the regional grid as well as oil and gas field production requirements in southwestern Argentina as the country seeks to overcome its energy shortages.

“Given the region’s serious energy supply issues, GE’s Jenbacher gen-sets are best positioned to address this region’s growing grid and on-site power demands.”

Industrial equipment provider Industrias Juan F. Secco S.A. of Santa Fe, Argentina, ordered 20 of GE’s JGS 420 GS-N.L Jenbacher gen-sets, which will be installed at the expanded El Huemul power plant owned by the company OXY, and at new power plants being built. The El Huemul power plant is characterized by the use of field gas with a high CO2-content, which is consumed by the power plant with no previous treatment.

The gen-set project is one of the largest for GE Energy’s Jenbacher gas engine business and a repeat order by Industrias Juan F. Secco, which overall has ordered 47 new Jenbacher units and several remanufactured engines.

A proven ability to meet the “fast-tracked” schedule for this order, coupled with Industrias Juan F. Secco’s familiarity with the engines’ durability, were key factors in GE’s selection.

“We are excited to be working once again with Industrias Juan F. Secco to provide a highly reliable, baseload supply of electricity to help industrial customers in Argentina address their urgent energy requirements,” said Prady Iyyanki, CEO of GE’s Jenbacher gas engine business. “Given the region’s serious energy supply issues, GE’s Jenbacher gen-sets are best positioned to address this region’s growing grid and on-site power demands.”

In addition to the gen-sets, which will be containerized by Industrias Juan F. Secco S.A., GE is also supplying synchronization equipment needed to allow the units to operate in island mode.

The gen-sets were manufactured at GE’s gas engine headquarters and manufacturing center in Jenbach, Austria. The equipment is scheduled to be delivered to the site by February 2008, with installation and commissioning set for the first quarter of 2008.

As part of GE’s efforts to support local employment in Argentina, Industrias Juan F. Secco S.A. sent its staff members to Jenbach to receive additional technical training needed to perform the engine start-up work
