Global Offshore International has been selected as the prime contractor by CMS Energy's oil and gas subsidiary, CMS Oil and Gas Company, for the Alba Field Development Project being installed offshore Equatorial Guinea, West Africa. Under a lump sum, turnkey contract awarded in March, Global is providing engineering, procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation, and start-up of pipelines and platforms associated with the project.

The project consists of a four-pile production platform, a tripod well protector platform, two in-field flowlines, and a 20-inch diameter trunk line leading to Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea. Once completed, the field will handle 250 mm cfpd of methane gas and the associated condensate. Due to the presence of wet CO2, one of the flowlines will be made from Duplex Stainless Steel. In addition, the production platform will have provisions for compression and re-injection of 100 mm cfpd of gas.

Engineering and fabrication began immediately upon project award.Offshore installation is scheduled to commence during the fourth quarter of 1999, with start-up in the first quarter of 2000. Global will perform work for this project using the combination pipelay/derrick barges Comanche and Cheyenne. Both barges are based in West Africa for Global Offshore International, the international division of Global Industries.

"Global proved throughout CMS Oil and Gas Company's qualification process that it is technically capable of meeting complex project requirements as well as an aggressive production schedule for this project," says Clay Etheridge, Global Industries Vice President for International Operations.

"The Alba Field Development Project represents Global's largest contract to date and presents some logistical challenges that require detailed planning for a successful and on-time project completion."

Global Divers & Contractors, Global Industries' wholly owned diving subsidiary, will perform saturation diving for pipeline tie-in operations.

Platform installation and pipeline tie-in services will be performed in 250 feet of water.

Global Industries provides pipeline construction, platform installation and removal, and diving services to the oil and gas industry in the Gulf of Mexico, West Africa, Asia Pacific, Middle East/India, and Mexico's Bay of Campeche.
