On 19 October 2009, Guangdong Dapeng LNG terminal received the first LNG cargo from "Al Ghariya", the Q-Flex ship of Qatargas which departed Ras Laffan Port on October 5. It comes under a long-term supply agreement signed between CNOOC and Qatargas last June, under which Qatar would supply 2 million tons of LNG per annum for 25 years.

A receiving ceremony was held at the Guangdong Dapeng terminal to celebrate the arrival of the first cargo. Mr. Wang Yang, Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Government, Mr. Fu Chengyu, President of CNOOC, Mr. Faisal M. Al Suwaidi, Chairman and CEO of Qatargas, and other representatives attended the ceremony.

The first cargo from Qatargas marks a milestone in the energy cooperation between the two countries. Through the implementation of the agreement, CNOOC will further strengthen its role to secure energy supplies and help promote clean energy utilization and energy consumption structure optimization in China.
