Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) received authorization to proceed with detail design and construction on a world-scale refinery expansion at Motiva Enterprises LLC facility in Port Arthur, Texas. This expansion, with a completion date of 2010, will add 325,000 barrels per day (BPD) of refining capacity essentially doubling the size of the refinery to more than 600,000 BPD, making it the largest U.S. refinery and one of the largest in the world.

According to Motiva, the 325,000 BPD expansion at Port Arthur is "equivalent to building the first new refinery in the U.S. in more than 30 years. This refinery will not only create extra capacity, but a sense of security of supply and a good opportunity to cover the growth that will be taking place." A joint venture of Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. and Bechtel Corporation will manage the engineering, procurement, and construction for the facility expansion.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Executive Vice President Greg Landry stated, "We are excited about the opportunity to deepen our relationship with Motiva. While we continue providing the proven resources of both organizations to engineer and build this large refinery expansion, we will provide our people with an exciting longer term opportunity to participate in a leading edge project. This project is vitally important to help Motiva meet the country's growing demand for more fuel supply and we are pleased to play such a critical role in the project's execution."
