A joint venture comprising JGC Corporation, Technip of France, Technip of Malaysia and Técnicas Reunidas of Spain has been awarded the additional engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by Vietnam Oil and Gas Corporation (PetroVietnam) for the offsite facilities of Dung Quat Refinery, the original contract for which was awarded to the joint venture in May of this year. The additional contract value is approximately US$ 423 million, and completion is scheduled for December 2008.

Offsite facilities of the refinery include crude oil tanks (65,000 cubic meter X 6 units), product tanks (27 units), interconnecting pipelines, and truck loading facilities.

The joint venture was already under contract with PetroVietnam to construct an atmospheric distillation unit (148,000 BPD), RFCC unit, LCO hydrotreating unit, naphtha hydrotreater, CCR and sulfur recovery unit at Dong Quat Refinery when the decision on the additional contract for crude oil tanks and other offsite facilities was made. This means that the joint venture will handle EPC services for all facilities throughout the refinery.

After economic stagnation in the wake of the 1997 currency crisis, the Southeast Asian countries are experiencing recovery along with increased domestic demand for oil products. Countries in the region are now actively planning grass-roots petroleum-related refineries and/or the revamping of existing facilities.

As a part of its management strategy, JGC aims to create a well-balanced portfolio taking account of regions and business areas, and will conduct sales activities all over the world. The company will continuously promote sales activities in the Southeast Asian market, including its focus on the oil refining business.
