04-April-2003

Keppel Shipyard is on course to complete a Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) conversion by end April 2003 for Single Buoy Moorings (SBM) Inc.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Corporation Ltd (KCL) through Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M), the yard also achieved three million man-hour work without a lost-time accident during the conversion of the 307,431dwt FPSO Serpentina.

Mr Choo Chiau Beng, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Keppel O&M said,“Keppel Shipyard is pleased to deliver its promises on time and on budget, with the highest level of safety and quality standard.”

Mr Dick van der Zee, Chief Operating Officer of SBM said, “It is quite a feat to achieve an excellent safety record for a fast-track conversion of a FPSO as complex as FPSO Serpentina. My congratulations to Keppel Shipyard.

“We have been working very closely with Keppel Shipyard in recent years. They have consistently delivered as promised and this is of great importance in our business.”

SBM has just awarded Keppel Shipyard another fast-track FPSO conversion, which adds up to six such jobs entrusted to Keppel Shipyard in the last four years.

Added Mr Nelson Yeo, Executive Director of Keppel Shipyard said, “Management commitment and client’s support to safety play an important role to build up a strong culture of safety at our yard.

“We are happy that SBM and their client have representatives in our Safety Steering Committee which oversees and support a comprehensive safety programme for all our three facilities of Keppel Shipyard.”

At a ceremony to name the vessel today, Mrs Gail Larson, wife of Project Manager Mr Ken Larson was the Lady Sponsor of FPSO Serpentina.

FPSO Serpentina is the second generic FPSO that Keppel Shipyard has converted for SBM, following the completion of the first vessel, FPSO Falcon in June 2002.

The generic FPSO is designed to cope with a wide range of field properties and water depths up to a maximum of 2,100 metres, and has the versatility to relocate between fields during its lifetime.

FPSO Serpentina was converted from the tanker, Amazon Eagle. Work began in May 2002 on a full refurbishment for life extension, installation and integration of topside modules and the fabrication and installation of the external turret, two topside modules, flare tower, helideck and tandem berthing of the export vessels.

FPSO Serpentina, which will be deployed in the Zafiro Oil Field off Equatorial Guinea, will be able to produce up to 100,000 barrels per day of oil.

Keppel Shipyard is a leader in FPSO/ FSO conversions, having completed 42 FPSO/FSO conversions and upgrading projects and a leading yard in shiprepair. As a member of Keppel O&M group, Keppel Shipyard aims to strengthen Keppel Corporation’s global leadership in the offshore and marine industry.

SBM is a major operator of FPSO and FSO systems and has been involved in over 60 projects of varying scopes from the supply of mooring systems to the turnkey supply and operations of FPSOs
