Keppel Shipyard, a division of Keppel Group, has successfully converted a 155,000dwt tanker into a Floating Production Storage and Offloading Vessel (FPSO) for ProSafe.

The vessel, previously known as White Sea, was named Espoir Ivoirien by Mrs Agnes Monnet, wife of the Minister of Mines and Energy, Côte d’Ivoire, at a ceremony at Keppel Shipyard this afternoon.

The conversion of Espoir Ivoirien, included the construction and installation of an internal turret and the installation and integration of the complete topside equipment package. Preparatory work for the conversion began in Subic Shipyard which carried out surface treatment, repair, blasting and painting.

On the conversion, Mr Charles Foo, Managing Director of Keppel Hitachi Zosen, said “The successful conversion of Espoir Ivoirien on schedule not only showcases our expertise and skills, it also signals the close working relationship between our sister yards.”

Mr Hans Hvide, President of ProSafe Production Pte Ltd, also expressed, “We are happy to receive the vessel from Keppel Shipyard. I am confident that Espoir Ivoirien will be an asset to Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) in its operations in West Africa.”

The vessel will be under a 10+10-year lease contract to Ranger Oil Côte d’Ivoire SARL (ROCIS), a subsidiary of CNRL and will be deployed for operations in the Espoir Field Development, located off Côte d’lvoire in West Africa.

ProSafe is the world's leading owner and operator of semi-submersible service rigs, the largest platform drilling contractor in Norway and a major owner and operator of floating production vessels outside the North Sea.

The successful completion of the conversion is further testimony to Keppel Shipyard’s capabilities as one of the largest and most versatile shipyard groups in Asia, undertaking the entire spectrum of repair, conversion and shipbuilding work.
