Construction of elemental sulfur recovery unit designed by “Giprogazoochistka” OJSC and being a part of combined hydrogen sulfide processing unit at “Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez” LLC oil refining plant was completed in 2010.

Since 2009 “Giprogazoochistka” OJSC has participated in the program for engineering modification of “Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez” LLC production facilities aimed to increase quality of oil products (conforming to Euro-3 / Euro-4 standards) and minimize adverse environmental impact.

In March 2010 “Giprogazoochistka” OJSC has completed design works for construction of elemental sulfur production units as part of combined hydrogen sulfide processing unit. Upgraded units are designed to clean off-gas by burning residual hydrogen sulfide contained in off-gas, and recover sulfuric acid from sulfur dioxide. Vessels capable to withstand explosion pressure are implemented in the project, thus allowing not to use safety valves and eliminate discharge of harmful substances into atmosphere.

While executing the works, “Giprogazoochistka” OJSC was using three-dimensional designing system AVEVA Plant Design Management System enabling to obtain volumetric image of any facility model and adjoining area. Licenser and developer of technological process for sulfuric acid recovery is Dutch company «Haldor Topsoe», and for liquid sulfur granulation process - German company "SANDVIK Process Systems".

Hydrogen sulfide processing unit was successfully put into operation in December, 2010 together with sulfur granulating and loading section. Sulfur production capacity of the unit is 130 thou t/year. Startup of sulfuric acid recovery section is planned to be in May, 2011.
