AB Mažeikių Nafta signed an Engineering Services Agreement and a Letter of Intent for a license with Chevron Lummus Global LLC (CLG) for a new grassroots VGO hydroprocessing ISOCRACKING unit to be built in its Mažeikiai Refinery, Lithuania.

An important element in the modernization program of AB Mažeikių Nafta is the implementation of a new VGO hydrocracker unit, to convert straight run VGO, thermally cracked gasoils and FCC LCO to clean fuels that comply with European and international standards. The ISOCRACKING unit is designed for 99% conversion, applying CLG’s state-of-the-art two-stage ISOCRACKING technology, and will achieve high yields of premium quality diesel and kerosene.

The ISOCRACKING unit will enable AB Mažeikių Nafta to meet the ever increasing regulatory requirements for European Union and United States cleaner fuels and to optimize the refinery’s conversion and further improve its operational efficiency and long term economic viability.

CLG licenses refining hydroprocessing technologies and catalyst systems worldwide, and is a 50-50 joint venture between Chevron U.S.A. Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, and Lummus Technology, a CB&I Company.

The joint-stock company Mazeikiu Nafta was formed on March 28, 1995 by reorganizing the state-owned company Nafta. Currently Poland’s PKN ORLEN is the major share holder with almost 90% of the shares. Mazeikiu Nafta operates the only refinery in the Baltic.
