The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has authorised the award of a US$14.5 million contract for the front-end engineering design of the Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas.

The Nigerian Content Division of NNPC gave the authorisation to an indigenous engineering company, Delta Afrik Engineering Limited.

The Group General Manager of the division, Mr. Joseph Akande, gave the details of the work entailed in the FEED as the major production platforms, living quarter platform and associated flares and bridges for the Olokola LNG.

He said that the contract would be executed within 145,000 engineering man-hours and would employ 100 engineers. It would also provide opportunities for skill development and competence enhancement for Nigerian engineers through technology transfer.

Investment decisions for the gas project was made last year by NNPC when the United States multinational oil company was selected as the project operator.

Akande, at the authorisation ceremony, said that the award of the contract was in line with the Federal Government’s directive that all FEED and detailed engineering must be done in Nigeria as from December last year.

With the directive, Akande said that four million man-hours of engineering works could be carried out in Nigeria annually. That volume of works would provide opportunities for 3,000 engineers, he added.

He commended ChevronTexaco for its commitment to the Nigerian content drive in the oil and gas industry.

Delta-Afrik was also charged to keep up with its impressive track record that had earned it the contract and to remain committed to zero incident operations.

Delta-Afrik is a relationship between Deltatek, a Nigerian company and its US-based partner, Worley Parsons.
