Offshore Group Newcastle (OGN) one of the UK’s leading EPC service providers to the offshore oil & gas and wind energy sectors has announced it has been selected by Talisman Energy (UK) Ltd for the engineering, procurement and fabrication of the oil and gas jacket, which will form part of a new bridge-linked platform within the Montrose Area Redevelopment (MAR) Project.

In a multi-million pound deal, the jacket which weighs circa 5400 tonnes, measuring 118 metres in length will be due for delivery in March 2014. The project will require a skilled workforce together with project management, engineering and design professionals. In total over 400 jobs will be created at the Hadrian Yard facility.

The field lies some 130 miles east of Aberdeen in water depths of circa 90 metres.

In addition to the direct workforce we foresee that a large percentage of construction materials and subcontracted services will be sourced from the UK, which in turn will generate additional jobs through the local supply chain and beyond.

Commenting on this major success for OGN Group, Chief Executive Officer, David Edwards said: “We are delighted to have secured this contract with Talisman Energy. The North Sea oil and gas market is thriving at the moment with substantial investment due to take place in the near future, and we hope these recent awards are the first of many with Talisman in the coming months and years.

“OGN is conscious that the upturn in North Sea development is to a large extent attributable to the range of tax incentives recently introduced by the Treasury.”

Dennis Clark, Chairman added: “I am delighted that Talisman have chosen OGN to design and build the Monarb jacket. It is extremely encouraging for our business and our employees to be selected to undertake such a major project by a leading international oil and gas company. I am confident that our skills and capability will enable us to fulfill Talisman”s requirements.

Geoff Holmes, Senior Vice President at Talisman Energy (UK) Limited said: “The Montrose Area Redevelopment project signals our ongoing commitment to maximising recovery of oil and gas reserves from the UK North Sea, and in doing so, our intention to attract and retain top talent across the industry.

“Our decision to go ahead with MAR is largely attributed to recognition from both HM Treasury and DECC that change was required to unlock further reserves from the UK North Sea. Their high level of engagement in relation to brown field allowance, and support from Oil and Gas UK, has enabled us to sanction this significant and important project.”
