Hydrosulfuric gas utilization and sulfur granulation unit, constructed as per “Giprogazoochistka” OJSC design was brought into operation at Achinsk Refinery (“ANPZ VNK” OJSC) which is a subsidiary of "NK "Rosneft" OAO at the end of 2008. The company specialists have performed process engineering, delivered all equipment package, developed detailed documentation, carried out installation supervision, design supervision, participated in precommissioning, arranged personnel training.

“Genenergomontazh” LLC (Sharypovo) acted as a General construction contractor. Total value of the project was 750 mln. RUR. The plant capacity is 7 ths. t/annum of sulfur. Slightly over 2 years went into the project implementation.

Achinsk Refinery is one of the most upcoming enterprises in oil refining industry. The plant manufactures great variety of oil products: motor gasolines, diesel fuels, fuel oil, jet fuel, construction and paving bitumen, liquefied gases. Techniques applied at Refinery are as good as the ones of foreign licensors.

“Hydrogen sulphide utilization is a problem of high priority in oil refining,- Igor Pavlov, General Director of Achinsk Refinery noticed. It is particularly important now when the Russian market changes over consumption of ecologically clean motor fuels. In the manufacture of oil products of Euro-3 class and higher from gasolines and diesel fuels, sulfur compounds subjected to utilization are recovered to the maximum extent possible. Apart from improving ecological parameters the unit will make it possible to commence manufacture of new production line at the plant.

The unit of “Giprogazoochistka” OJSC is an environmental facility and ensures 98% cleaning of harmful gaseous discharges to atmosphere. In other words, after startup of the unit the discharges of sulfur dioxide (SO2) became 50 times smaller than before.

Among supplementary products recovered by Achinsk Refinery due to project implementation is packaged granulated solid sulfur that can be used in tire industry and as a feedstock to manufacture fertilizers, sulfuric acid, etc.

Sulfur production unit is a computer-managed one applying distributed control system CENTRUM CS 3000 of Japanese company YOKOGAWA. Application of this sulfur recovery process control system for “Giprogazoochistka” OJSC – is the first and rather successful experience. Works on this facility automation were executed by Industrial Automation Department jointly with Instrumentation Department and Electrical Engineering Department of “Giprogazoochistka” OJSC.

“The new unit will contribute to progressive work purposed to reduce environmental impact and restore the ecological balance in the region,- Sergey Anisimov, General Director of “Giprogazoochistka” OJSC comments. The specialists did everything necessary in reasonably short time in order to achieve high efficiency and attain required balance in respect of environmental conservation.”
