Petrom, the largest oil and gas producer in South-Eastern Europe, commissioned a new FCC (fluid catalytic cracker) post-treater plant for gasoline production with low sulphur content at Petrobrazi. The plant started-up in March.

Neil Morgan, Petrom Executive Board member, responsible for Refining: “For the construction of this unit we have invested more than EUR 90 mn. We are talking about the latest technology for the production of gasoline with low sulphur content. Since the beginning of this year Petrom supplies only low sulphur fuels in compliance with the EU environment and quality standards.”

The FCC post-treater plant at Petrobrazi, with an annual capacity of more than 700,000 t, contributes to the supply of Euro V gasoline for the internal and external market. The plant will enhance production of cleaner gasoline on site and compliance with the environmental norms of the Romanian and European legislation.

The construction of the installation began in 2008. The construction services of the installation and the supply of Petrom equipment were undertaken by Uhde company, part of German group Thyssen Krupp.

“The reduction of polluting emissions is a priority objective in the world and our efforts, as fuel producers, focus on ensuring their quality and on reducing their impact on environment”, added Neil Morgan.

Petrom, the largest refining operator in Romania
Through its own two refineries, Petrobrazi and Arpechim, Petrom has an annual refining capacity of 8 mn t which accounts for approximately 40% of the total crude refining capacity in Romania. Both refineries produce fuels in accordance with the European standards of environment and quality.

In 2008, the two refineries processed 6.12 mn t of crude, out of which 1.83 mn t imported crude, while the utilization rate was 77%.
