Petroperú and the Spanish company FLUOR SA signed an agreement to conduct a feasibility study to determine the possibility of installing new process units in the refinery Iquitos. Implying a modernization of the refinery, with which, in addition to producing high-octane gasoline currently imported, will enable develop LPG (cooking gas) and asphalts that both required in the Amazon.

The ceremony for signing the contract entitled "Feasibility Study for the Modernization of the Refinery Iquitos," the Chairman of the Board participated Petroperu Humberto Campodónico Ing.; Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of Spain in Peru, Luis Martí Alvarez and CEO of the company FLUOR, Miguel Ángel Gómez Latorre Director.

Also present were the regional vice president, Luis Lozano; the mayor of the provincial municipality of Punchana, Juan Cardenas; the General Manager of Perenco, Benoit De La Fourchardiére and honorary vice consul of Spain in Loreto, Walter Boria, among others.

This donation is the result of a management made by Petroperu before Spanish Government, who has awarded a grant for this study to be developed by the Spanish company FLUOR. The cost of this study will be of Four Hundred Twelve Thousand Six Hundred Euros (€ 412,600.00) approximately $ 550,000, which is funded by the Fund for the Internationalisation of Business "(MSIF).

The draft Iquitos Refinery Upgrade consist of:

  • Install new conversion units to minimize residual performance fuels and produce more value added.
  • Process the crude oils available for Blocks located in the northern jungle of Peru (Lot 64-Talisman, Lot 8 and 1A / B-Pluspetrol , Lot 67 and Lot 39-Perenco-Repsol) and / or imported crude.
  • Provide market high octane gasoline and increase the production of middle distillates (B5 Diesel and Turbo A-1) to cover current deficits.
  • Produce LPG and asphalt for supply to the region
  • Produce diluents (naphtha) to decrease viscosity of heavy crude oil in the region, such as crude Perenco, Repsol oil. etc.
  • Producing energy through electrical cogeneration.

The work entrusted to the company FLUOR, be made within 154 days (22 weeks) from the effective date of this contract.
