Saipem has been awarded a new onshore contract in Algeria worth approximately 1.3 billion euro.

The Algerian oil company Sonatrach has awarded Saipem the lump sum turn-key contract for the LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) processing facility project at the Hassi Messaoud oil and gas complex in central Algeria, 900 km to the south east of Algiers.

The contract covers engineering, procurement and construction of three LPG production trains with a total capacity of 8 million cubic metres a day.

The works will be completed by first half of 2012.
