SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad (“SapuraKencana” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce that the gas production from the Berantai field (“Berantai”), offshore Peninsular Malaysia, commenced on 20 October 2012. Under the Risk Service Contract dated 31 January 2011, Berantai was jointly developed by Sapura Energy Ventures Sdn Bhd (“SEV”) and Kencana Energy Sdn Bhd (“KE”), both wholly-owned subsidiaries of SapuraKencana and Petrofac Energy Developments Sdn Bhd (“PED”). A Joint Operating Agreement (“JOA”) was also entered between PED, SEV and KE, on 31 January 2011, to jointly operate and produce the petroleum resources from the Berantai field (the “Operating Parties”).

The Berantai field is located approximately 150km offshore Terengganu, Malaysia, 10km south of the Tapis Field and 30km northeast of the Angsi Field. The development comprises a wellhead platform connected to a floating production storage and off-loading (“FPSO”) vessel, the FPSO Berantai. Gas is exported by a 30km subsea pipeline to the PETRONAS Carigali-operated Angsi Field and onwards into the Peninsular Malaysian gas grid.

This project is the first Risk Service Contract awarded in Malaysia and the result of which meets PETRONAS’ goals of growing domestic gas production and building local capabilities.
