The Shaw Group Inc. (NYSE: SGR) today announced that its Shaw Stone & Webster business unit has been awarded an engineering and procurement contract by Marathon Petroleum Company LLC, a subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO), for a 70,000 barrels per day (bpd) heavy gas oil hydrocracker unit and 47,000 bpd kerosene hydrotreater unit. The contract award is part of the Garyville Major Expansion (GME) Project at Marathon’s Garyville, La. refinery. The expansion project is expected to increase refining capacity from 245,000 bpd to 425,000 bpd, providing the market with an additional 7.5 million gallons of clean transportation fuels daily. The value of Shaw’s contract was not disclosed.

Shaw has worked at Marathon’s Garyville refinery since 2003, performing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for a distillate hydrotreater unit, gasoline desulphurization unit and coker naphta splitter unit, which helped conform the refinery to meet new clean-fuel standards.

J.M. Bernhard, Jr., Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Shaw said, “This award reflects a successful and solid relationship Shaw and Marathon have built through the years, and we are pleased to continue that relationship by facilitating these plant improvements, essential enhancements needed to meet today’s growing energy demands. Shaw’s unique capability to provide integrated services and viable solutions for our customers has established us as significant force in the refining market.”
