On 14 Jan 2009, at Nam Trieu Shipyard (Thuy Nguyen – Hai Phong), Petroleum Technical Services Corporation held the launching ceremony of the biggest product of Vietnam’s shipbuilding industry – FPSO-5 floating oil storage facility with the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, Leaders from Ministries and Departments; Chairman of PetroVietnam Dinh La Thang and the leaders of its affiliates.

This significant event of PTSC – the investor – also attracted the attention of a wide range of press agencies.

With the total investment of up to 208 million USD, FSO-5 “PTSC White Tiger” has a tonnage of 150,000 ton, so far the biggest floating oil storage facility of Vietnam’s shipbuilding industry. This is a product of Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Nasico – affiliate of Vinashin Group), designed by Monobuoy Company (England) and Sinus Company (Poland), under the observation of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS – US) and Vietnam Register (VR - Vietnam).

FSO-5 is regarded as a non-automatic oil tanker (no engine), 258.14m long, 46.4 wide, 24m high, 24m water-line, 150,000 ton dead tonnage, 173,796 m3 total containing capacity. FSO-5 is used to subject oil to preliminary treatment at sea, modernly equipped with many outstanding features to serve for the exploitation of petroleum offshore. FSO-5 could receive oil through underground pipelines and separate water from oil to produce crude oil for refineries and export purposes with an output of 3,500 – 5,000 m3 /hour. The capacity of its sewage treatment system is 2,400 m3 / day.

It is expected that on 30 Apr 2009, several final phases of FSO-5 will be completed before transferring to PTSC to exploit crude oil at White Tiger oilfield.

FSO-5 Ship Launching marks a tremendous progress PTSC has made in the domestic and international petroleum services market. This is among the major and strategic investments of PTSC, signifying the resolution to conquer FSO – FPSO service market, so far PTSC’s strong point in Vietnam and in the region.
