GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V., as the operator, started-up gas production from the G16a-C offshore gas field in the Dutch continental shelf, with a brand new production platform.

The G16a-C natural gas field was discovered in 2009 and is located approximately 133 kilometres North East of Den Helder in the Dutch sector of the North Sea. Partners in the G16a licence are GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. (60%) and EBN B.V. (40%).

The total expected reserves are 2.3 billion cu.m of natural gas. The gas will be transported through the offshore pipeline system of Noordgastransport B.V. (NGT), operated by GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. to the onshore gas treatment facilities in Uithuizen. The platform was installed in July and consists of a topside with a weight of approximately 1,200 tonnes and a four-legged jacket made of tubular steel with a weight of 1,000 tonnes.

Jean-Marie Dauger, Executive Vice-President of GDF SUEZ in charge of the Global Gas & LNG business line declared: “Thanks to an efficient organization and a strong HSE policy, the project has been completed within budget and time schedule. We are proud that the production starts up only 2 years after the discovery of the field. According to its growth strategy, GDF SUEZ demonstrates once again that mature areas are still profitable.”

GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. is the largest operator in the Dutch sector of the North Sea, with 92.2 million Boe reserves and 17.3 million Boe production. Currently, the affiliate operates more than 30 offshore production platforms and 5 subsea wells. GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. is also the leader of
offshore transport infrastructures management, thanks to its position as operator of Noordgastransport B.V. (NGT) and Northern Offshore Gas Transport B.V. (NOGAT).
