The record for the longest tie-back in the UK Sector of the North Sea now stands at 67km (41.65 miles) following the start up of Nuggets N4 in the Alwyn Area in the Northern North Sea on 10 October 2003, less than a year after project sanction.
The cluster of five Nuggets wells lies some 440km (273.5 miles) north east of Aberdeen on the UK Continental Shelf and is 100 per cent owned and operated by TOTAL E&P UK Limited.

Nuggets N4 ties back to the existing Nuggets N1, N2 and N3 gas bearing accumulations, which began production in November 2001 and are in turn tied-back to TOTAL’s Alwyn North platform.

Nuggets N4 produces between 1.5 – 1.8 million standard cubic metres of gas per day, (9,150 – 10,980 boe/d) taking the combined production from the Nuggets cluster of five wells to up to 6.0 million standard cubic metres of gas per day (36,600 boe/d).

Michel Contie, managing director of TOTAL said: ‘The start up of Nuggets N4 represents the successful conclusion of this two-phase project that reaffirms our company’s commitment to the UKCS by creating value in the exploration and development of prospects adjacent to existing infrastructures.’

Background information:
The design of Nuggets N4 is similar to the existing Nuggets infrastructure and was selected to optimise economic benefits and safety and environmental impacts.

Nuggets N4 consists of a single isolated subsea well tied-back via a 13 km subsea pipeline to the existing Nuggets N3 manifold where it is transported to the Alwyn North platform via the existing Nuggets pipeline.

Control of Nuggets N4 is from Dunbar platform via an extension of the existing umbilical. A piggyback pipeline provides hydrate inhibitor to the wellheads. On arrival at Alwyn North platform all Nuggets’ gas is co-mingled with the Alwyn Area’s gas for export through the Frigg Transportation System to the St Fergus Gas Terminal.
