October 2006

ENI S.p.A. successfully completed the performance guarantee test run of Chevron Lummus Global’s Upflow Reactor (UFR) technology at its Taranto, Italy Refinery. CLG’s unique UFR technology and catalyst are applied in a revamp of ENI’s existing fixed-bed residue hydrotreating unit to increase the unit’s throughput to 4,000 tons/day and also increase the catalyst cycle life to 16 months.

During the test run the UFR met all performance guarantees. ENI is very pleased with the performance of the unit and the improved overall economics of its refinery complex due to the ability to process heavier crudes as a result of the revamp.

With this revamp, two UFR units are in operation with more units planned as part of KNPC’s 330,000 BPSD New Refinery Project.
