Technip has been awarded two major contracts with a combined value of approximately €200 million as part of the Otway Gas Project being developed by Woodside Energy Ltd in Australia.

The Otway Gas Project includes the development of the Geographe and the Thylacine gas fields, both located about 70 km south of Port Campbell, Victoria. The proposed development includes:

  • A wellhead platform on the Thylacine reservoir;
  • A subsea manifold on the Geographe reservoir;
  • A subsea pipeline from the wellhead platform to the Victorian coast;
  • An onshore gas plant located near Port Campbell.

The contracts awarded to Technip relate to the wellhead platform, located in a water depth of 100 m, and to the onshore gas plant which will utilize the Technip’s CRYOMAX®(1) gas processing technology.

Both contracts include project management, detailed engineering, procurement of equipment and material, construction and pre-commissioning of the wellhead platform, the onshore gas plant and onshore pipeline. These projects will be carried out by Technip’s engineering centre in Perth (Australia) with the support of Technip’s regional head office in Kuala Lumpur. The construction in Victoria will commence in September/October 2004. The production is planned to start mid-2006.

Woodside Energy Ltd is the operator of the Otway Gas Project with 51.55% working interest. Otway partners are Origin Energy Resources Limited (29.75%), Benaris International NV (12.7%) and CalEnergy Gas (Australia) Limited (6%)

Daniel Valot, Chairman of the Technip Group, said: “These contract awards are an important step in achieving Technip’s commitment to strengthen its presence in Australia. Through the former Coflexip, the Group has been very active in this area for more than 10 years, mainly in the offshore pipeline business, as again demonstrated by the recent award by Woodside of the Enfield subsea contract to the Technip/Subsea 7 Joint Venture. The two Otway contracts demonstrate the benefit, in terms of business development, of the synergy between the Offshore and Onshore/Downstream Branches of Technip.”
