Tharwa Petroleum Company has already started gas production from the Mediterranean area of Thekah at a daily rate of 95 Million cubic feet. Thekah will now be joining the country's gas production map, according to a report presented on Thursday 29/01/2009 to Petroleum Minister Sameh Fahmi by Tharwa Board Chairman Engineer Atef Abdel-Sadeq.

The gas output from Thekah will be treated at al-Gameel gas treatment plant in Port Fouad before being sent to the national gas network, the report said.

The company cooperated with an Italian company in building two maritime platforms and 50-kilometer-long underwater lines in the area, and, thanks to the help offered by the Egyptian oil companies of Enppi and Petrojet and the offshore oil services company and the facilities extended by Petrobel, the gas field in Thekah was up and operational at a record time of 20 months.

Tharwa Petroleum Company is an Egyptian joint stock company established in accordance with the provisions of general authority of investment and free zones decree No.8/1997 with an issued capital of $400 Million and authorized capital of $800 Million.
