On August 2nd 2010 at Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Capital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a ceremony was held to make notice of the first oil flow produced from Field D30 – Block SK305 offshore Malaysia. This event once again affirms success of Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) under Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) in the integration in international oil and gas industry.

Attending and witnessing the Ceremony were Mr. Dinh La Thang – member of the Central Communist Party Committee, Chairman of Board of Directors of Petrovietnam, Mr. Hoang Trong Lap – Vietnam ambassador to Malaysia; leaders of Malaysian National Petroleum Group (PETRONAS); leaders of Indonesian National Petroleum Group (PERTAMINA) and managers and staff of subsidiaries who involve in the project of SK305. PVEP delegation led by Mr. Tran Duc Chinh – Party Secretary, Chairman of Board of Directors of attended the ceremony and working schedules.

Project SK305 offshore Malaysia is committed to the cooperation framework signed by three parties in line with the general cooperation Agreement on petroleum exploration and production in three countries of Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The petroleum contract for Block SK305 took effect as of June 16th 2003, in which Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP – 30%), Petronas Carigali. Sdn. Bhd (PCSB – a subsidiary of PETRONAS – 40%) and Pertamina (30%) are parties involving in the project which is operated by Malaysia-based joint operation PCPP company. This is one of 20 overseas petroleum contracts undertaken by PVEP apart from 38 domestic on-going contracts.

Block SK305 is located in Balingian province, offshore Sarawak state with average depth of 150m. Exploration activities have been done in 18 drilling wells of which some have discovery of petroleum structures in the contracted Block. D1 cluster consisting of Field D30 and Dana is the first to be selected for production stage.

Surmounting various difficulties and challenges, with great efforts by parties in the project, on June 22nd 2010, the first oil flow was produced from Field D30, officially adding to petroleum output of PVEP as well as Petrovietnam. SK305 becomes the second overseas project which earns petroleum products to PVEP. The average output of Field D30 is 4,730 barrels and 7.83 cubic feet of gas per day. The gross accumulated output by July 31st 2010 is 170,340 barrels of oil and 282 million cubic feet of gas, making a positive contribution to the production plan for 2010 and coming years of Petrovietnam Exploration and Production Corporation.
Previously, in a meeting between Mr. Dinh La Thang and Mr. Dato Shamsul Azhar Abbas – Chairman of Malaysia Nationa Petroleum Group at head-office of PETRONAS on August 2nd 2010, the two sides affirmed to continue to strengthen the strategic cooperation of PETROVIETNAM – PETRONAS and reach high consensus in many discussion contents related to cooperation projects between the two regional top petroleum groups.
