It was in 1996 when we started import of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) for the first time for Shizuoka Gas Company. As further growth of gas demand was felt promising, we started in April 2006 to expand our receiving terminal facilities, notably adding the third LNG storage tank. The facilities were completed recently and the operation started on January 7, 2010.

This doubles our storage and trebles our send-out capacity thus establishing basis for a more stable and reliable supply of city gas to both existing and expanding markets.

Shizuoka Gas Company supplies city gas not only to its approximately 300,000 customers within its licensed territory but also supplies either re-gasified natural gas or LNG to seven other city gas distributors within the Prefecture of Shizuoka. Wholesale of gas to INPEX Corporation started concurrently with the completion of the terminal expansion. Wholesale gas will also start to flow to Chubu Gas Company in 2013. The role of our receiving terminal will become greater as we cater for growing demand of natural gas within and outside the Prefecture.

The third LNG storage tank

  • Capacity: Approx. 160,000 kl (Total capacity of the two existing tanks is approx. 177.000 kl)
  • Diameter: Approx. 72 m
  • Depth: Approx. 40 m
  • Construction period: April 2006 – October 2009
  • Cost of construction: Approx. ¥13.5 billion (The total cost of expansion including construction of the third LNG storage tank is approx. ¥24 billion)
