October 12th 1992

Located in the P/9 block, the field is slated to begin production in October 1993. Initial production from five wells is expected to total some 18,000 barrels of oil per day. Development plans include a 16-slot production platform and a 28-mile pipeline to transport the oil to existing facilities in Unocal's Helder field in the adjacent Q/1 block.

The four-leg combination wellhead/production platform will be connected by a bridge to a jack-up support rig. It will be set over the existing P/9-6 well. The oil will be transported from the Horizon platform to the Helder platform through a 10-inch pipeline. From there, it will be transported via the existing pipeline from the Q/1 block to Oiltanking Amsterdam B.V.'s oil terminal at the Amerikahaven in Amsterdam. The existing pipeline system is owned and operated by Unocal Transportation B.V. and DSM Energy Transportation B.V.

Unocal Netherlands holds an 80 percent working interest in the field and partner DSM Energy holds 20 percent. Van Dyke Energy Co. is also a party to the agreement through an overriding royalty interest that is convertible to a working interest in the P/9 field.

The Horizon field brings Unocal Netherlands' total producing fields to six, in combination with the Helm, Helder, Haven and Hoorn oil fields and the L/11-b gas field.

Unocal Corp. is a California-based energy resources company. The company is a worldwide explorer and producer of crude oil, natural gas and geothermal energy. The company also makes and markets a wide range of petroleum and chemical products.
