The Indonesian government is urging ExxonMobil and Pertamina to accelerate oil and gas development in Cepu Block to realize production immediately.

The government’s request was put forward by Vice President Jusuf Kalla to ExxonMObil’s management in Washington DC on Monday (25/6 – local time) during a visit to meet U.S. companies. ExxonMobil’s Senior Vice President Stuart R McGill, and Asia Pacific Vice President for Exploration and General Manager for ExxonMobil Indonesia Peter Coleman were present in the meeting.

“ExxonMobil has started their work in Cepu Block. But we urge them to accelerate exploitation schedule to commence in 2008,” the Vice President said. Exxon was going to start producing from the block in 2009, according to initial plans.

According to the Vice President, ExxonMobil’s management promised in the meeting to accelerate operations in Cepu Block. “So far there has been no big problems. They only inquire about Pertamina’s employees who will assist in the production process,” he said.

Pertamina’s Vice President Iin Arifin Takhyan, who also attended the meeting, said that Pertamina will prepare half of the staff in the operations of Cepu Block. “Currently 20 percent of workers involved in the preparation for operations are from Pertamina,” Arifin Takhyan said.***
