On October 20, the groundbreaking ceremony of Zhuhai LNG project Phase Ⅰ was held at Gaolan Island and the construction kicked off. After its completion, the project will annually provide 3.5 million tons of clean energy to the Pearl River Delta region. CNOOC Gas & Power Group is the holding company of the project.

Zhuhai LNG Project has a total design capacity of 7 million tons per year and is divided into 2 phases. Phase Ⅰproject is scheduled to put into commercial operation in 2013, thus forming one major part of Guangdong natural gas supply network. The LNG shipped to Zhuhai would be supplied to western coastal cities along the Pearl River, including Zhuhai, Zhongsan, Guangzhou, Foshan and Jiangmen, and also cover Hong Kong and Macao.
