Pembina Pipeline Corporation ("Pembina") (TSX:PPL) is investigating an oil spill from its Moosehorn 8" gathering pipeline, approximately three kilometers north of its Swan Hills Terminal and Pump Station.

The company shut down the pipeline at 7:42 a.m. MT on July 19, 2011 after detecting a volume imbalance and initiating air and ground investigations. The company found that it had a release of approximately 1,300 barrels of crude oil along its right-of way and into muskeg and an unnamed creek, but confirmed that oil had not entered any named waterways or sources of drinking water.

Pembina has contained the spill, having installed booms and weirs, and has isolated the section of the pipeline to reduce any further potential impact. It has also dispatched clean-up crews to begin clean-up efforts.

"We take this kind of incident extremely seriously," said Bob Michaleski, President and Chief Executive Officer. "We are highly committed to the safety of the communities in which we operate and to the environment, and undertook immediate action to minimize any potential impact to the land and waterways once we confirmed the spill."

The company has made arrangements for affected shippers to transport their production by truck to other area Pembina truck terminals.

The source and exact size of the spill is under investigation at this time. Pembina has informed and is working closely with the appropriate authorities and regulators.

Pembina Pipeline Corporation transports crude oil and natural gas liquids produced in western Canada, owns and operates oil sands pipelines and has a growing presence in the midstream & marketing and gas services sectors. Pembina's common shares (PPL) and convertible debentures (PPL.DB.C) are traded on the TSX.
