As a result of the implementation of new operational practices and technological improvements aimed at increasing well productivity and reduce costs, Integral Active Tertiary Gulf Oil, known as Chicontepec, has made significant progress.

The new strategy of operating the wells and facilities, together with reservoir studies and technological advances, has helped to increase production significantly. These increases are greater than 140 percent since its reactivation in 2007 and 34 percent so far this year, from 44 thousand barrels per day to 58 000 at the end of this month.

Despite being a highly complex project, the nature of the subsoil and the topography of the region, Chicontepec is a key element in the strategy for hydrocarbon production in the medium and long term.

Within the project management initiatives are plans to increase the production base through the efficient operation of existing wells and the reinstatement of wells currently closed. Another strategy that frames this project is the drilling of new wells in areas of higher productivity and low risk.

Since the second half of 2010 was achieved significantly reduce the decline of the wells that were in operation, by creating groups of specialists dedicated to study their productivity, development of an intense campaign measurement and implementation of a center monitoring to monitor 24 hours 365 days a year the main facilities, pipelines and wells.

Before implementing these operational improvements, the monthly decline factors were between eight and ten percent, which has been reduced to between two and four percent.

As a result of these initiatives this year have run about 2 thousand activities related to the operation of wells, such as: optimization of flowing wells, installation and optimization of artificial systems, cleaning of wells, chemical refracturing and inductions, which which has resulted in additional production average of 7.400 barrels of oil per day.

In parallel, intense, Pemex Exploration and Production has ventured into new forms of operation focused on maximizing the use of gas from the reservoir, as is the case of self-sustaining macroperas, which have allowed to use the training to supply gas engines , compressors and generators of electricity, gas and injecting gas lift systems and send it over to a processing center. The use of these practices has increased oil production and improved the use of forming gas.

On the other hand, PEP installed in 2009 five field laboratories in order to evaluate new technologies and modes of exploitation and operation, and identify initiatives to reduce development costs and production. Derived from this effort to date are evaluated more than 80 strategic initiatives in these laboratories.

Last June, a result of these technology initiatives, was tested in the well Corralillo 629, 11 multiple completion intervals, thereby achieving an initial production of 1,150 barrels of oil a day, a figure that has remained to this day today. Similar interventions have been carried out 21 with very favorable results, highlighting Corralillo wells 332, 4073 and Tajin Swirl 178 with initial production of 829, 713 and 648 barrels per day, respectively.

Petróleos Mexicanos is how the project promotes Chicontepec, considered the largest oil reserves in our country, through strategic lines aimed at optimizing their value and continue to develop new technologies.
