Islamic Republic of Iran president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, inaugurates Shazand (Imam Khomeini) oil refinery’s boosting gasoline production capacity project today.

By launching the project, the oil refinery’s gasoline production capacity will rise by 4.3 million liters per day reaching 8.3 million liters per day in total.

Also by completion of ongoing development plan of the refinery, gasoline production capacity of the refinery will be increased by 3.4 times reaching 16 million liters per day up to the end of the current Iranian calendar year on 20th March 2012.

Based on the plan, Shazand’s oil refinery’s oil products quality will be improved so that the gasoline produced by the refinery will be upgraded to 90 and 95 octane rate.

According to a report by Shana correspondent, during today’s inauguration ceremony tow units including hydrogen treated naphtha (unit 12) and izomerization unit (unit 33) become operational.

By start up of unit 12, which takes 30 thousand barrels of oil per day as feedstock, three million liters of 100-ocatne gasoline will be produced each day.

Shazand oil refinery came on stream in 1993 with nameplate refining capacity of 150 barrels of oil per day while its running capacity will increase to 250 thousand barrels per day by implementation development plan’s phase 2.
