Mr. Abdulkareem Liaybi the minister of oil opened the second unit of Al-Diwaniya refinery in Thursday the 5th of April 2012, and this unit produces 10000 bpd which will raise the total production power of the refinery to 20000 bpd.

It is worthy to mention that, the project cost was 63 billion dinars and this project was carried out in cooperation with the ministry of industry & minerals and accomplished within one year. And this project will contribute in producing 1.6 million liters of oil products which will meet the local needs in the governorate and the nearby areas, and these products are:-

• Naphtha: 300,000 liters per day
• Black oil: 270,000 liters per day
• Gas oil: 230,000 liters per day
• Kerosene: 800,000 liters per day.

At the same time, the Iraqi oil ministry in coordination with the ministry of electricity, shown its capability to supply the power station that will be built with the necessary fuel.

this action comes according to the ministry's plan to meet the local needs of the oil products by adding new production units as well as improve the quality of fuel
