LNG GOT prepares for the future - LNG Bunkering

All the elements have fallen into place to enable the establishment of LNG GOT as a pioneering, LNG-based ship bunkering company. The participants have been determined to break the deadlock caused by the reluctance of both LNG suppliers and users to be the first to make a commitment to small-scale LNG.

LNG GOT is positioning itself to provide shipping with a future-proof bunker fuel through the storage and sales of LNG. The initiative has been launched as a long-term investment and the goal is to start deliveries, by means of the world’s first LNG bunker vessel, to customers using the port of Gothenburg in 2013.

The joint venture partners in LNG GOT are Göteborg Energi and Gasnor. Göteborg Energi, western Sweden’s leading energy company, has a proven history and competence in the distribution, trading and use of natural gas.

For its part Gasnor already distributes LNG to approximately 30 small terminals along the Norwegian coast and has set itself the goal of establishing a functioning LNG network throughout northern Europe.

The LNG GOT initiative is supported by the Port of Gothenburg, the top freight hub in Scandinavia. Like Göteborg Energi and Gasnor, the Port of Gothenburg is a future-oriented company which advocates measures aimed at achieving a sustainable society.

LNG GOT and the port authority believe that the current drive towards a cleaner maritime environment demands new solutions and that LNG will have an important role to play in reducing ship emissions of harmful atmospheric pollutants.

LNG GOT is targeting ships which visit Gothenburg with a high frequency as its primary future customers. Obviously the owners of such ships making use of the LNG GOT services will be those who recognise the advantages in both the early adaptation of their vessels for the coming emissions restrictions and the use of LNG as a propulsion fuel to achieve these objectives.
